AWS EC2 compute is expanding to meet demand from agentic AI and physical AI workloads, with AMD-based instances now serving AI inference alongside traditional high-performance computing. The partnership with AMD, which began with EPYC processors in 2018, has advanced through every processor generation, including Turin-based instances in 2026. The AWS Nitro System underpins security and performance across the full EC2 portfolio, from AMD and Graviton to Trainium and Inferentia. AWS is also applying cost optimization strategies to AI workloads, including expanded Spot Instance guidance, mirroring its general cloud cost management approach from 2022.
