AWS Boss Defends Backing Both Anthropic and OpenAI

AWS CEO Matt Garman says Amazon's investments in both Anthropic ($8 billion) and OpenAI ($50 billion) represent a familiar balancing act. He argues AWS has long competed with its own partners, pointing to rivals like Oracle selling services on AWS as precedent for managing such conflicts. The dual investment was partly strategic necessity, as both AI models were already available on rival Microsoft's cloud.
