Authors Urge Publishers to Curb AI Use - Prominent authors like Lauren Groff and R.F. Kuang demand publishers limit AI use, emphasizing human involvement in audiobook narration and book creation. In an open letter, they argue that AI companies exploit their work without compensation. The letter also urges publishers to commit against replacing human staff with AI and to avoid publishing machine-created books.
Over 1,100 additional writers have signed the letter within 24 hours. Meanwhile, authors face legal setbacks in lawsuits against tech companies using their work for AI training.
