Apple's New Feature Proves iPhone Photos Are Real

Apple announced Apple Reference Image, a tool designed to verify the authenticity of photos taken with the iPhone 18 Pro. When a photo is captured, the camera sensor records signed sensor data, which Apple's Private Cloud Compute converts into an unalterable reference image. Users can compare it against edited versions to detect changes. The iPhone 18 Pro also features a variable aperture on its 48-megapixel main camera, giving photographers greater control over light and image quality, particularly in low-light conditions. Apple achieved this using six laser-cut blades thinner than a human hair. The company will also support the SynthID standard for identifying AI-generated images.
