Anthropic Taps SpaceX's Colossus 1 for Claude
Anthropic will use SpaceX's Colossus 1 supercomputer, originally built by xAI in 2024, to power its Claude chatbot. The Memphis-based system houses over 220,000 Nvidia GPUs delivering 300 megawatts of compute, serving Claude Pro and Max users while expanding API and Claude Code usage limits.
The partnership may grow significantly, with Anthropic expressing interest in SpaceX's planned orbital AI infrastructure requiring thousands of solar-powered satellites. Anthropic is also securing capacity from Amazon, which will provide nearly 1 gigawatt by year-end backed by a $25 billion investment, plus a separate deal with Broadcom and Google coming online in 2027.
