Anthropic Overtakes OpenAI in Business Customers

For the first time, Anthropic has surpassed OpenAI in verified business customers, according to fintech firm Ramp's AI Index. Data from over 50,000 companies shows 34.4% now pay for Anthropic services versus 32.3% for OpenAI. The shift reflects a dramatic 12-month surge for Anthropic, growing from 9% to 35% business adoption since May 2024, while OpenAI's share declined 1%. Ramp economist Ara Kharazian credits Anthropic's strategy of targeting technical industries like finance and tech first, then expanding outward, though he remains skeptical the lead will hold long-term.
