Anthropic Eyes Custom Chips Amid AI Shortage

Anthropic is considering designing its own chips as demand for advanced AI systems strains supply, sources told Reuters. No project team has been established yet, but rivals Meta and OpenAI already have similar efforts underway. The move comes as Anthropic deepens existing compute partnerships, including an expanded deal tapping 3.5GW of Google TPU capacity and multibillion-dollar agreements with Nvidia and Microsoft. The company's revenue run rate has surpassed $30bn, up from $9bn at end of 2025, with demand accelerating sharply.
