Anthropic Bans Third-Party AI Agents From Claude Subscriptions

Anthropic is cutting off Claude Pro and Max subscribers from using their plans to power third-party agentic tools like OpenClaw, effective April 4, 2026. The change takes effect at 12 pm PT that day. The company cited strain on compute and engineering resources as the reason, stating subscriptions were not built for such usage patterns. Boris Cherny, Head of Claude Code, said Anthropic is prioritizing customers using its own products and API.
