AI Bots Impersonate Real Musicians on Spotify
Jazz pianist Jason Moran discovered a fake EP under his name on Spotify, complete with anime-style artwork and indie pop music he never made. He is among a growing number of artists, including Drake and multiple jazz musicians, targeted by AI bots masquerading as real performers on streaming platforms.
Spotify says it removed over 75 million spammy tracks in 2024 and is developing a tool letting artists approve releases before they go live. Critics argue these measures fall short, particularly for artists who avoid Spotify entirely or are deceased, leaving no way to contest fraudulent content.
