xAI Engineer Fired After Raising Grok Safety Alarms
A former xAI engineer has sued the company and SpaceX, claiming he was fired for repeatedly raising AI safety concerns about Grok. Devin Kim, who departed in September 2025, alleges xAI failed to prioritize safety, warning that Grok could spread discrimination and weapons information — concerns he says were later validated when the chatbot made headlines for generating hateful content and nonconsensual imagery.
The lawsuit targets xAI co-founder Jimmy Ba, not Elon Musk, alleging Ba retaliated against Kim and ignored Musk's own directives to follow safety protocols. Kim, recently named president of the Center for AI Safety, is seeking compensatory and punitive damages. xAI and SpaceX have not responded to requests for comment.
