White House Forces Anthropic to Kill Global AI Access
Anthropic was forced to disable global access to its new AI models Fable 5 and Mythos 5 after the U.S. Commerce Department issued an emergency export ban citing security concerns over a discovered jailbreak. Amazon CEO Andy Jassy reportedly alerted officials that researchers used Fable 5 to obtain cyberattack-ready information, prompting the order.
The ban has sparked international backlash, with European and British officials condemning the move as discriminatory. Anthropic called the action heavy-handed, warning it could halt all frontier AI deployments. The incident deepens tensions between Anthropic and the Trump administration, which had previously blacklisted the company over military AI access disputes.
