White House Bars Microsoft From Green Card Sponsorship
The White House has suspended Microsoft and several other tech firms from the federal PERM program, which allows companies to sponsor green cards for H-1B visa holders. Vice President JD Vance accused Microsoft of fraud, claiming it posted job ads in obscure newspapers to avoid American applicants, then hired cheaper foreign workers, while cutting 6,000 U.S. jobs and securing 6,200 H-1B visas in the same period. Microsoft denied wrongdoing, saying most visa applications covered existing employees paid equally to American counterparts. Adobe, Cognizant, Infosys, Tata, Wipro, Capgemini, and HCL were also suspended.
