US Leads Global AI Layoffs, Amazon Cuts 16,000
Global tech layoffs surpassed 30,700 in early 2026, with the United States accounting for roughly 24,600 cuts, over four-fifths of the worldwide total. Amazon alone announced 16,000 corporate job eliminations, framing the cuts as part of an AI-driven restructuring despite reporting $716.9 billion in revenue last year.
Sweden, the Netherlands, India, and Israel round out the five hardest-hit countries. Analysts say the cuts reflect a structural shift rather than a temporary downturn, with senior and specialized roles increasingly affected. Nearly 1 million tech jobs have been eliminated globally since 2021.
