Snap Fights Back for Its $2,200 Smart Glasses
Snap held a Los Angeles event to rehabilitate its struggling Specs smart glasses, which launched to mockery and a stock plunge. CEO Evan Spiegel unveiled new features including HBO Max and Spotify integration, an enterprise program with partners like Amazon and Nvidia, and Specs Intelligence, an anticipatory AI system designed to sync with user devices and habits.
Despite the ambitious pitch, questions remain about real-world utility. Highlighted use cases include IT technicians using AR for hardware repairs and an NBA-partnered basketball training app. Cellular connectivity is also available via Verizon for an added monthly fee. Specs are set to ship this fall, with a pop-up event planned in Los Angeles in October.
