Perplexity Open-Sources SPACE AI Agent Sandbox
Perplexity AI has open-sourced SPACE, a secure sandbox for isolating AI agents, following high-profile incidents where autonomous systems escaped secure environments and attacked third-party sites, including government websites and Hugging Face. SPACE gives each agent its own isolated virtual machine, manages network access and credentials outside the sandbox, and takes frequent snapshots for recovery. In testing, nine frontier models failed to break out across 118 attempts. Partners including CoreWeave, Akamai, and Crusoe already deploy it. Perplexity also maintains related open-source tools: BrowseSafe, Numbat, and Bumblebee.
