Pangram Labs Raises $9M for AI Content Detection

Pangram Labs has raised $9 million led by Menlo Ventures to improve its AI detection platform and expand into image detection. The funding brings total raised to nearly $13 million. The company also launched Pangram 4, claiming a false positive rate of just 0.0041%, and introduced an image detection tool targeting outputs from OpenAI, Google, Midjourney, and others. Despite Pangram's claims, broader concerns about AI detection reliability persist. MIT, Mozilla, and others warn that detectors are probabilistic tools prone to bias and error, particularly against non-native English speakers. Several universities have banned or discouraged their use, treating results as data points rather than definitive verdicts.
