OpenAI Launches Teen ChatGPT With Safety Guardrails
OpenAI has launched ChatGPT for Teens, a restricted version of its chatbot designed for users aged 13 to 17. The platform blocks conversations around violence, self-harm, sex and mental disorders, and can alert parents via parental controls if restricted topics are raised.
The teen version also includes a Study Mode with quizzes and visualizations, plus a Study Hours feature for parents to monitor usage. OpenAI uses input analysis rather than age-verification tools to detect younger users, automatically switching on teen mode when needed. The move follows lawsuits and growing concern over AI misuse by minors.
