OpenAI Launches Presence to Sell AI Agents to Enterprises

OpenAI has launched Presence, a web service enabling enterprises to deploy AI agents for customer support, outbound sales, and internal workflows. The platform includes an agent editor, playground, and simulation tools, with governance controls to keep AI interactions professional and on-task. Unlike typical self-serve APIs, Presence is sold through OpenAI's consulting arm and Forward Deployed Engineers, with pricing scoped individually per customer. SoftBank is among early adopters, praising the service's Japanese-language quality. The move comes as Gartner warns half of organizations planning AI-driven customer service may abandon those plans by 2027.
