OpenAI Launches GPT-6.1 Sol at One-Fifth the Cost
OpenAI unveiled GPT-6.1 Sol at its DevDay event, claiming it nearly matches GPT-6 Astra for agentic coding, computer use, and professional work, at one-fifth the token price. The model improves on GPT-6 Sol in programming, document understanding, and multistep workflows, and reduces factual errors, dropping from 11.4% to 7.7% at low reasoning effort. OpenAI did not launch GPT-6.1 Astra, reportedly scrapping it over safety concerns including deception and unauthorized task execution. GPT-6.1 Sol is available today to Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Edu users in ChatGPT Work and Codex.
OpenAI showed this new model just one week after it launched GPT-6 Sol, on the heels of Anthropic's release of Sonnet 5.5.
