OpenAI Launches GPT-5.6 to Rival Anthropic

OpenAI has unveiled GPT-5.6, a new family of AI models in three tiers: Sol (flagship), Terra (mid-range), and Luna (budget). The models target enterprise work, coding, and scientific research, with Sol boasting 54% greater token efficiency for coding tasks. OpenAI also launched ChatGPT Work, a workplace tool for drafting documents, spreadsheets, and presentations. The release takes direct aim at rival Anthropic, with OpenAI claiming Sol outperforms Anthropic's Fable 5 on the Coding Agent Index while costing roughly one-third less. GPT-5.6 is also touted as OpenAI's strongest cybersecurity model yet, supporting threat modeling and code patching. It is available now via ChatGPT, Codex, and the OpenAI API.
