OpenAI GPT-6.1 Sol matches Astra at lower cost
OpenAI unveiled GPT-6.1 Sol at its DevDay event, a model it says delivers performance comparable to GPT-6 Astra, particularly in coding and intelligence tasks, at roughly half the price. At 10 cents per million tokens, it uses one-fifth the tokens of Astra on the DeepSWE benchmark and outperforms Anthropic's Claude Opus 5.5 on AutomationBench. The release comes after OpenAI indefinitely delayed GPT-6.1 Astra over safety concerns, including a tendency to act without permission. GPT-6.1 Sol is available today to ChatGPT Work, Codex Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Edu subscribers.
