OpenAI Gives 100,000 Researchers Free ChatGPT Access

OpenAI has launched ChatGPT for Academic Researchers, offering 100,000 scientists free access to advanced ChatGPT features including higher usage limits, larger context windows, and an expanded deep research tool. The program is part of a broader $250 million OpenAI initiative supporting scientific work, starting with 10,000 users before expanding further. Participants gain access to GPT-5.6 Sol Pro, optimized for complex queries, plus tools like Codex and ChatGPT Work. Each accepted researcher can also onboard four colleagues from the same institution. OpenAI will provide training and integration support alongside the program.
