OpenAI Forms Math Panel After 100 Problems Solved
OpenAI has launched an independent advisory group hosted at Princeton's Institute for Advanced Study, giving mathematicians input into its math research. The move follows the controversial publication of a Navier-Stokes Millennium Prize solution and claims that the same internal AI model has resolved over 100 additional open math problems.
The group can offer advice and go public with views but holds no power to slow or redirect OpenAI's research. The announcement comes amid backlash from 25 Fields Medal winners who signed a letter accusing AI labs of threatening mathematical intellectual work.
