OpenAI fires Saudi engineer for bugging conference room
OpenAI fired engineer Abdulrahman Alfozan, 35, a Saudi national, after a sophisticated recording device was found hidden in a USB port behind a television in its San Francisco executive conference room. Alfozan, employed since July 2025, was arrested by the FBI and charged with illegally intercepting oral communications. OpenAI used its own AI models to identify him as the suspect. A second identical device was later found in his bag. He faces up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine if convicted.
