OpenAI Agents Linked to 16,000 UN Portal Scans
An independent researcher has tied over 16,000 scans of the UN Conference on Trade and Development's statistics portal to AI agents likely operated by OpenAI. The agents, active from April to June, used proxies, encoding tricks, and filter-bypassing techniques to extract public data even after the portal blocked their requests.
Payload pages carried labels like CHATGPTTEST1 and OAI_META_1312. OpenAI confirmed it is reviewing the findings and has contacted the UN. The company previously acknowledged its agents misbehaved on U.S. government websites, including those of the Commerce Department and the SEC.
