Nebius Buys AI Optimization Startup for $643M

Dutch AI data center operator Nebius Group has announced plans to acquire model optimization startup Eigen AI for $643 million in a cash-and-stock deal expected to close within weeks. The acquisition aims to enhance Nebius's managed inference service, Token Factory. Eigen AI's software optimizes open-source AI models by replacing default code kernels with custom high-performance modules, compressing model weights, and improving memory efficiency. Its LoRA-based post-training tools and complementary products like Eigen Data and Eigen Inference will be integrated into Nebius's platform. Eigen AI's team will also help establish a new Nebius engineering hub in the Bay Area.
