Meta Tracks Employee Clicks to Train AI
Meta has launched the Model Capability Initiative, an internal program recording US employees' mouse movements, clicks, keystrokes, and periodic screenshots to train AI models on human workplace behavior. The effort falls under a broader Agent Transformation Accelerator program aimed at automating professional tasks.
Meta insists the data will not be used for performance evaluations, but the initiative is fueling surveillance concerns. The move coincides with planned workforce reductions of up to 10% starting in May. Such monitoring practices face far stricter restrictions in Europe under data protection laws.
