Meta Reshuffles 7,000 Into AI Units, Cuts 8,000
Meta is reassigning approximately 7,000 employees into four new AI-focused units while simultaneously laying off around 8,000 workers, reducing its headcount by about 10%. The new groups include Applied AI Engineering and Agent Transformation Accelerator XFN, operating with flatter structures and fewer management layers.
The cuts, the deepest since Meta's 2022-2023 restructuring, free up capital for AI investment, with Meta now planning to spend up to $145 billion on infrastructure this year. The move comes as Meta works to close the gap with AI rivals OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic.
