Meta releases downloadable AI model for personal computers

Meta has launched Muse Glimmer, a downloadable 30-billion-parameter AI model designed to run on a single graphics card for tasks like schedule management and file organisation. The model is available free via Hugging Face, with Meta also planning to release weights for its more powerful Muse Spark model. The release coincides with a 6500-word essay by CEO Mark Zuckerberg advocating for widely distributed AI rather than centralised control, directly challenging rivals like OpenAI and Anthropic. Zuckerberg also argued against restricting Chinese open-source models, calling instead for American open-source AI to lead globally.
