Meta launches camera-free AI glasses to shed creep stigma
Meta unveiled the Ray-Ban Meta Audio at its Connect 2026 conference, its first camera-free AI glasses starting at $349. The audio-only device supports music, calls, speech translation, and Meta's AI assistant Muse, weighs just 43 grams, and offers up to 12 hours of battery life, extending to 48 hours with its charging case.
The move addresses criticism over privacy violations linked to Meta's camera-equipped glasses, which were used to record people without consent. Meta also announced the Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 with a 12 MP camera and 3K video, new frame styles, global expansion, and upcoming features including Dolby Atmos Capture and private data processing.
