Meta India VP Exits for OpenAI Amid Scrutiny
Meta's India and Southeast Asia vice president Sandhya Devanathan is leaving the company after over a decade to join OpenAI, where she will oversee consumer growth, enterprise adoption, partnerships and operations across Southeast Asia and Australia, based in Singapore.
Devanathan's departure comes as Meta faces mounting pressure from Indian authorities, including a government summons over Instagram restricting a post by Prime Minister Modi and concerns over child sexual abuse material on its platforms. OpenAI has been rapidly expanding across Asia-Pacific, recently hiring an India head and opening offices in Singapore, Tokyo, Seoul, Sydney and Delhi.
