Meta, Broadcom Expand Custom AI Chip Partnership
Meta Platforms has deepened its partnership with Broadcom, committing to an initial deployment of 1 gigawatt of its custom Meta Training and Inference Accelerators. The new MTIA chips will be the first custom AI silicon built on a 2-nanometer process, with plans to scale to multiple gigawatts by 2027.
The deal comes as Meta pursues aggressive AI infrastructure spending, pledging over $135 billion in capital expenditures for 2026. Broadcom CEO Hock Tan, who sits on Meta's board, will step down from that role but move to an advisory position focused on chip strategy.
