Hinge Founder Raises $18M for AI Dating Service
Justin McLeod, founder of Hinge, has raised $18 million to launch Overtone, a new AI-powered dating service backed by Match Group, FirstMark Capital, and Pace Capital. The company describes itself as a voice- and audio-forward platform offering curated introductions, explicitly distancing itself from traditional app mechanics like swiping and algorithmic feeds.
Overtone aims to make selective, science-based matches rather than overwhelming users with endless options. The launch comes amid widespread dating app burnout, with a 2024 survey finding 78% of users dissatisfied. Relationship expert Esther Perel has joined the board. The service launches later this year in select locations.
