New data reveals Elon Musk's Grok chatbot is struggling to gain traction, appearing in just three of over 400 federal AI use cases reviewed by Reuters. By comparison, OpenAI appeared in more than 230 examples, while Google and Anthropic each appeared dozens of times. The poor showing is especially damaging given SpaceX's IPO pitch centers heavily on Grok and a claimed $28.5 trillion AI market opportunity. Critics say the reason is simple: Grok just isn't as good as its rivals, rarely cracking top AI leaderboards. Musk has reportedly pressured banks into buying Grok subscriptions to access the SpaceX IPO, while also admitting xAI used OpenAI's own models to train Grok.
