Grok 4.5 Slashes AI Costs, Rivals Anthropic and OpenAI

SpaceXAI has launched Grok 4.5, a new AI model priced at $2 per million input tokens and $6 per million output tokens, roughly half the cost of comparable models from Anthropic and OpenAI. The company claims the model achieves this through twice the token efficiency of rival systems, making it competitive despite falling slightly short on benchmark performance. Grok 4.5 targets standard enterprise tasks including coding, writing, and research. Elon Musk described it as comparable to Anthropic's Opus 4.7 but faster and cheaper. The launch comes during a busy week for AI releases, with OpenAI also announcing GPT-5.6 Sol and a new voice model family called GPT-Live.
