Google's Intrinsic Open-Sources Core Robotics Platform

Google's robotics unit Intrinsic has open-sourced Intrinsic Core, its foundational industrial robotics platform, under an Apache 2.0 license. Announced at ROSCon 2026, the platform offers reusable building blocks including real-time robot control, pose estimation, motion planning, grasp planning, and simulation tools, eliminating the need for developers to rebuild infrastructure from scratch. Intrinsic also released the Open Machine Tending Solution, a reference design for AI-powered CNC tasks compatible with Universal Robots and FANUC hardware. The move aims to lower barriers to automation, particularly for the estimated 92% of small fabrication shops in the U.S. and Europe that currently use no automation.
