Google UK Boss: Train Workers, Don't Fear AI
Google's UK managing director Kate Alessi has dismissed fears of AI-driven mass unemployment, arguing the real danger is failing to upskill workers. She cited research suggesting six in ten UK jobs will be enhanced rather than replaced by AI, pushing back against warnings from London Mayor Sadiq Khan and Bank of England governor Andrew Bailey.
To close the skills gap, Google is launching a £2 million upskilling programme, including Gemini university tours and pop-up training events nationwide. Despite nearly two thirds of Britons having tried AI tools, only one in ten consider themselves advanced users, with just a quarter using AI to save meaningful time.
