Google Tests In-Chat Flipkart Shopping Via Gemini
Google is piloting a feature in India that lets users buy Flipkart products directly through Gemini and AI Mode, with a Buy button linking to Flipkart's checkout without leaving the AI interface. The test covers smartphones, electronics, and accessories, with a broader rollout planned for October ahead of India's festive shopping season.
The move reflects a wider push by Google and rivals like OpenAI to go beyond product discovery and enable direct purchases through AI. Google invested $350 million in Flipkart in 2024 and has been developing commerce tools including its Universal Commerce Protocol. Competing retailers like Amazon currently lack the direct buy option in the interface.
