Google Gemini Gets Major Overhaul to Fight ChatGPT

Google unveiled sweeping updates to its Gemini app at I/O 2026, including a Daily Brief morning digest, a redesigned Neural Expressive interface, and a new AI video model called Gemini Omni. The changes signal Google's intent to transform Gemini from a chatbot into an all-purpose AI hub, competing directly with ChatGPT and Claude across its 900 million monthly users. A new 24/7 personal AI agent called Gemini Spark will run background tasks and custom workflows even when a phone is locked. Daily Brief rolls out today to US subscribers, Gemini Omni launches on Google Flow and YouTube Shorts, and Spark arrives for Ultra subscribers next week.
