Google and Amazon Challenge Nvidia's AI Developer Dominance
Google has released TorchTPU, an open source PyTorch version that lets AI developers run apps on Google's Tensor Processing Units with a simple configuration change and no code rewriting. Amazon made a similar move Monday with TorchNeuron, enabling apps to run on its Trainium chip. Amazon is also submitting code to the main PyTorch project to decouple it from Nvidia-specific features. Google collaborated with Meta, Hugging Face, and others to ensure compatibility and launched a dedicated TPU agent suite to help developers migrate. Both companies aim to erode Nvidia's dominance in AI development.
