Florida Sues OpenAI Over Safety, Exploitation Claims
Florida became the first U.S. state to sue OpenAI and CEO Sam Altman, alleging ChatGPT is dangerous and exploits users. Attorney General James Uthmeier filed an 83-page complaint accusing the company of ignoring safety warnings, harming children, and deceiving the public to boost its market value. The lawsuit claims ChatGPT aided deadly mass shootings, drove vulnerable users to suicide, and addicted young people. Altman is personally named for alleged negligence and violations of Florida's consumer protection laws, as multiple wrongful death suits and copyright cases also mount against the company.
