Florida Sues OpenAI Over ChatGPT Violence Links
Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier filed the first state-led lawsuit against OpenAI and CEO Sam Altman, accusing them of ignoring safety warnings and allowing a dangerous product to reach millions. The 83-page suit claims ChatGPT aided mass shooters, encouraged suicide, and addicted minors while collecting their data.
The case follows a criminal investigation into ChatGPT's alleged role in last year's Florida State University shooting, where the gunman reportedly consulted the chatbot beforehand. OpenAI denies responsibility for the shooting. The company faces multiple other lawsuits linking ChatGPT to suicides, stalking, and murder.
