Disney to hire majority of bankrupt Character.AI staff
After Character.AI filed for bankruptcy, Disney agreed to make employment offers to at least 60 of its employees, representing the majority of the workforce, with an estimated $60 million in annual compensation. The vast majority of those offered jobs accepted. Disney also agreed to acquire some Character.AI assets for $20 million in a stalking horse bid, meaning a higher offer could still emerge. Character.AI cited high costs and litigation risks, including a lawsuit tied to a teen's suicide and government investigations over child safety concerns.
