Crusoe drops $1.25B Boom Supersonic turbine deal
Crusoe, the Denver-based AI data center startup behind a massive OpenAI-serving campus in Abilene, Texas, has scrapped a $1.25 billion deal to use Boom Supersonic's Superpower turbines as a primary power source. The agreement had called for 29 of Boom's 42-megawatt turbines, with first deliveries planned for 2027.
Boom CEO Blake Scholl announced the split on X, noting turbines no longer fit Crusoe's near-term power plans. The loss is a significant blow to Boom, which raised $300 million largely to commercialize its stationary power business and fund development of its Overture supersonic passenger jet.
