Cook Warns AI Demand Fueling Apple Memory Crisis
Apple CEO Tim Cook cautioned investors of rising memory costs in coming quarters, citing a global supply crunch driven by surging AI demand. The shortage, dubbed RAMageddon by analysts, stems from cloud providers and AI developers consuming vast quantities of DRAM and HBM chips, leaving consumer electronics firms competing for limited supply.
Apple, which relies on memory across iPhones, Macs and iPads, is also pushing on-device AI features that require significant RAM. Cook said Apple managed constraints this quarter but expects greater impact ahead, with potential responses including price adjustments, design optimizations or expanded supplier contracts.
