ChatGPT Images 2.0 Dominates India, Struggles Globally

ChatGPT Images 2.0 has found its strongest foothold in India since launching last week, with OpenAI reporting approximately 5 million downloads there during launch week compared to 2 million in the U.S. Indian users are primarily using the tool for self-expression, creating stylized portraits, avatars, and fantasy-themed visuals. Globally, however, the response has been modest. Third-party data shows app downloads rose 11% week-over-week, but daily active users and web traffic increased by only around 1-1.6%. Emerging markets like Pakistan, Vietnam, and Indonesia saw sharper spikes, with download increases of up to 79%.
