AWS Reveals 8-Step AI Customization Decision Framework

AWS has published a decision framework to help teams choose the right generative AI customization approach, ranging from basic prompt engineering to fully custom model training. The guide addresses a common and costly problem: teams either over-engineer solutions with unnecessary fine-tuning or under-invest by relying solely on prompts when domain-specific training is needed. The framework presents a spectrum of eight steps across three categories: Use, Enhance, and Train. Built around Amazon Bedrock, SageMaker, and Amazon Nova Forge, the core principle is to start simple and escalate only when current approaches fail accuracy, latency, or domain requirements. Most workloads, AWS notes, never need to go beyond step three.
