AWS Launches AI Agent to Govern Cloud Costs

AWS has unveiled a FinOps agent in feature preview at FinOps X 2026, designed to autonomously monitor cloud costs, detect anomalies, perform root-cause analysis and route alerts to teams via Slack or Jira in real time. The tool targets both seasoned FinOps teams and smaller organizations without dedicated cloud cost staff. The agent addresses the unique challenge of AI cost governance, where spending is non-deterministic and must be tied to business outcomes through unit economics. Built with a human-in-the-loop approach, AWS acknowledges that full autonomous cost actions require trust the industry has yet to fully establish.
