Anthropic Signs Multibillion-Dollar GPU Deal With AMD
Anthropic will purchase up to 2 gigawatts of GPU capacity from AMD in a multibillion-dollar deal that also sees AMD investing up to $5 billion in the AI company. Anthropic will adopt AMD's MI450 GPUs housed in Helios rack systems, which offer 1.4 exaflops of FP8 performance and 31 terabytes of HBM4 memory, surpassing Nvidia's Vera Rubin systems by 50% in memory capacity. Deployment begins in the first half of 2027. AMD will also broadly adopt Anthropic's Claude AI to accelerate its software development, particularly for its ROCm platform. The deal follows similar agreements Anthropic has struck with Google, Broadcom, and Nvidia as it diversifies its hardware supply chain.
