Anthropic Signs $11.6B Cloud Deal With Akamai

Anthropic has committed $11.6 billion over seven years to Akamai's cloud infrastructure, more than six times a previous $1.8 billion deal between the two companies. The agreement, Akamai's largest ever, focuses on CPU capacity as AI agents drive demand for general-purpose chips. Akamai shares surged 17% after hours. As part of the deal, Akamai issued Anthropic a warrant for up to 5% of company stock, reversing the typical pattern where suppliers invest in AI labs. The contract could grow to $20 billion total, with Akamai expecting revenues of $1.7 billion annually by end of 2028 after spending $5.5 billion to build capacity.
